I love talking flat lays but realized something was missing from most how-to posts on the subject (including my own). I want to go through some neat folding methods for flat lay photos for poshmark, instagram, or whatever makes your heart happy with aesthetically pleasing goodness.
So lets talk some methods for jeans/pants today! By talk, I actually mean let me take you through some photos that’ll hopefully bring some new inspiration to you, while explaining what makes a photo look strong and stand out.
The main goal here? Work with the layout, don’t force it! You’ll notice you probably tend towards certain flat lays over others usually due to:
1. Great balance in the layout
2. Creative folding or display (merchandising) techniques
4. Some shadows to show the viewer some contrast and depth in the item(s) — could you angle the lighting to give you depth more? Could you style the clothing to draw the viewer in through the multiple layers of folds for an item?
5. Fun add ons like faux greenery, lipsticks and beauty items, other clothing pieces, etc. make flat lays stand out quickly (that being said, this is intentionally last, since I view the others as more important!)
I use flat lay photos to give customers, viewers, or whoever scrolls through my instagram feed an insight into how I see the clothing I’m merchandising: as more special than a simple garment — as a beautiful piece of art.
